A TOTAL of 50 runners took part in the Jersey Spartan Athletic Club’s Daphne Wagstaffe Memorial 5 km Run from West Park.
The first home in the race, which was held in memory of former club official and JEP sports reporter Daphne Wagstaffe, was Dan Halksworth in a time of 16 minutes 44 seconds, followed closely behind by Dave Ibbotson in second and veteran Phil Ahier in third.
The run of the day went to the winner of the women’s race, Jo Gorrod, who was back for her first race after breaking her ankle in training for the London Marathon. She said: ‘I was a bit nervous at first but I let my legs do the talking and I’m delighted.’
Apart from being first woman home she was seventh overall in a time of 18.32, with Sarah Corcoran second woman in 20.06 and Sarah Bruce third in 20.10.
