Race for Life aims to beat £53,000 target
Monday 8th June 2009, 2:56PM BST.
NEARLY 1,500 women and children took part in Jersey’s Race for Life event yesterday, with organisers hoping to smash their sponsorship target of £53,000.
Participants ran, walked and jogged the five kilometres in a bid to raise cash to help fund Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.
A total of 1,448 turned out to take part in the race, which started at 11.30 am at Jardins de la Mer, despite the rain clouds hovering overhead.
The route took people along the beach promenade to Bel Royal and back again.
Race for Life was created in 1994 and the event has grown to become Britain’s biggest women-only fund-raising event.
The next big event for Cancer Research Jersey is the 24-hour Relay for Life, which takes place in the Royal Jersey Showground in Trinity on 8 August.
