TWO members of the Jersey Triathlon Club joined 280 other athletes to take part in the Weymouth Middle Distance Triathlon on Sunday.

Doug Gorman and Anthony Smith both turned in fine performances at the well established season opener raced over the popular half-ironman distance, with Gorman finishing 40th overall and 17th in the men’s 30-34 age group in a time of 4.43.24, while Smith finished 51st overall and 9th in the veteran 40-44 age group in a time of 4.46.27.

Conditions in Weymouth were difficult and race organisers had the final say on if the open water sea swim would take place, but luckily Sunday dawned reasonably calm and the event went ahead according to schedule with a 2.1 km swim, an 86 km bike and a 21 km run.
