MANY public sector workers are stressed at work and worried about abuse from the public.
Three-quarters of those who took part in a major survey last year reported being stressed and almost two-thirds were worried about abuse or harassment from the public.
One in four had also been bullied or harassed by a colleague and one in three had witnessed it take place.
About 80 per cent were happy with the job they did and three- quarters believed their positions were secure. But about 40 per cent did not feel their pay was fair considering their duties and responsibilities.
They were generally happy with the support they received from their immediate managers but less content with senior management.
States chief executive Bill Ogley said the results showed that 90 per cent of employees were happy at work and prepared to go the extra mile when necessary. ‘But the findings also tell us, in no uncertain terms, that we need to work harder to improve performance and working life in the public sector and we will take action to achieve that,’ he said.

If 25% have been harrassed at work and 75% are stressed how does that work out to only 10% being unhappy?
I have never known a stressed person to be happy about it, nor known anyone who is being bullied to be happy at work.
To me these figures are bad and I believe the management can’t be doing their job properly if this is the case.

given whats hapening in the rest of the world, they should be happy to be in employment

I’ve got an idea Mr Bill Ogley! Why don’t you just shred the survey?

I also was wondering how they arrived at 90% being happily employed by the States when 3/4 are stressed and 1/4 affected by bullying in some way too…..talk about an interpretation of the statistics….are they saying that States employees like to suffer?

A case of you couldn’t make it up, or are they in actual fact made up? So we have 90% happy with life at work according to the manangement even though the figures show different.

What about the reverse when they are rude & discourteous to the public, have just experienced the like myself today!!
