TWO men will bring a new meaning to the words window shopping as they appear for two days in the shop front of New Look for a cycling challenge.

Dr Brian Ellis (54), of St Lawrence, and Stuart Fell (39), of St Helier, intend to cycle on a static bike for a total of 48 hours to raise money for Jersey Hospice Care.

During the two day period they will be continuously on view to the public walking down King Street as they eat, sleep and cycle. From 5 pm today,  Thursday 18 June, the men will take it in turns to do two hours each on the bike until 5 pm on Saturday 20 June.

Dr Ellis, a GP at David Place, said: ‘I wanted something that would be a physical challenge because as I am getting older I need it! ‘My mother survived breast cancer, my father died of bowel cancer and my nephew has malignant melanoma.

‘Jersey Hospice is a wonderful institution. They provide a fantastic service. Anything you can do to help them put something back while also doing a challenge is good.’

Born in Wales, Dr Ellis is married with three children and has lived in Jersey for 21 years.

Mr Fell, Bedell Trust Company trust officer and Hospice volunteer, said that he and Brian came up with the fundraising idea to cycle in front of the public over a pizza.
‘We wanted people to see us suffer,’ he said. ‘People are more likely to part from cash if they see blood, sweat and tears. It’s going to be tough – you cannot escape.’

Both men will also use the fund raising experience to get fit for their bigger cycling challenge in Ecuador later this year which is also to raise money for Jersey Hospice.

St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft will open the challenge this month and if anyone would like to sponsor the men they can at www.justgiving.com/twomenandabike or e-mail much-needed words of encouragement to twomenandabke@gmail.com.
