Large pool of temps available

EMPLOYERS could benefit from the large pool of temporary workers that are now available in the jobs market.

Recruitment consultants say that they have a large number of potential temps on their books, many with good-quality experience and skills.

The majority are casualties of the redundancy measures that a number of Island firms have taken in recent months, particularly in the financial services sector, but there are also a number of newly graduated students seeking work in the Island.

Recruiter Sarah Milling at ASL says that although a permanent job may be a longer-term goal applicants are ‘willing to turn their hand to anything’ and to try something new, or transfer to another area of their industry.

‘It is particularly hard for the graduates this year. They want to get a foot in the door but there are few graduate programmes out there,’ she said.
