Swine flu closes school

Helvetia House School has been closed temporarily following confirmation of two new cases of swine flu.
Deputy Medical Officer of Health Dr Susan Turnbull said that the two new cases were receiving treatment and ‘doing well’ and that the first person who caught the flu had made a full recovery
She said that all contacts who needed preventive treatment with Tamiflu medication had been advised or would be contacted.
‘It has been necessary to close Helvetia House School on a temporary basis, as a precaution,’ she said. ‘This decision will be reviewed on Monday.’
Medical Officer of Health Dr Rosemary Geller said earlier this week that she expected more cases during the summer and that the virus could spread rapidly throughout the Island later in the year. Information leaflets about the virus have been posted to every household
