Ward to fly the flag

JERSEY’S most prolific Island Games medal winner has been chosen to be the Island’s flag bearer at the NatWest Island Games in Aland a week on Saturday.
Pistol shooter Dave Ward, who has a total of 57 medals to his name – around 40 of them gold, has been described by organisers as probably having won ‘as many medals as a small island’.
The honour is also appropriately timed as Aland in 1991 was Ward’s first trip to an Island Games where he won two medals – one gold and one silver.
The chairman of the Island Games Association of Jersey, Steve Jacobs, said it was fitting that the honour of flag bearer for this year’s opening ceremony be given to Ward in recognition of his achievement which spans 18 years of competition.
