It’s time the UK stepped in to review our system

Friday 19th June 2009, 3:00PM BST.

From Brian Villette.
ACTING police chief David Warcup has said: ‘I would like to reassure the public that there are clearly laid-down and regulated practices and procedures governing the handling of information by the police, and I will be making sure that they are fully complied with.’

How can we trust anything told to us by the police when it appears they can manipulate rules and regulations to suit themselves as, in my opinion, in the case of Senator Syvret’s arrest and the search of his abode without a warrant?

It is becoming increasingly apparent that not only is our government corrupt, so is the whole of the judiciary. Maybe it is time for the UK government to step in and carry out a review from top to bottom.

It will never happen – if the British government is not interested in Zimbabwe, then Jersey is of far less import.

To say our island government are corrupt & so is the whole of the judiciary is a bit strong. Sounds like a Syvret follower. Syvret who makes wild claims without foundation and back up.People seem to think they can have it both ways apearing to make the rules up as they go along to suit their means.David Warcup has walked into an island in troubles of it’s own states members making. I certainly trust him more so than Power. He has got out in the island introduced himself into the parishes and seems to be following through with the promises he has made which is more than many can say.

Are there any Stuart Syvret followers left? Because if there are they must be running into single figures now.

It wouldn’t do any harm to have a fully independent review of the system, especially now trust is at an all time low from what I can see. If the authorities have nothing to hide then surely they would welcome it just to put peoples’ minds at rest that everything is correct.

I have always fully supported someone independent to watch the watchers, just to see they are in step with the rest of society. And why not?

At present how does anyone know what is the truth? We get the pro-establishment media reporting things from one angle and then get information from other sources, not both can be correct. I for one want to know the truth about things.

Isn’t it amazing how views change when it suits.
Surely those saying sack the comeovers in preference to locals are being hypocritical when they say lets have a review by the UK.
Isn’t Jersey capable ? Is there nobody trustworthy in Jersey ?
From what I have been seeing on the national news lately we would be better off keeping UK government out of our affairs.

Well said 5.PJG! yet again here we have the usual old cry “An expert is needed , bring in someone from the UK!”. The justification for this is always that being from outside the Island such a person would be a)impartial b)a beacon of natural justice. What rot.I give as an example the two English MP’s who during the recent Haut la Garenne investigation did not miss an opportunity to rail in the International Press against the States, The Bailiff, the Chief Minister, and Islanders in general, branding us all as medieval child abusers of the worst kind!I am probably alone in wondering but where, if at all, have those same individuals registered with the same amount of vigour (and venom)their outrage about the Baby P case, or the little girl starved to death by her own parents, or Victoria Climbie, just to name three of quite a few recent cases of current abuse in the UK?What is even more unforgiveable is that neither of these two individuals has apologised for the damage done to the Island by their bandwagoning and exagerated over reaction: the exorbitant costs now being covered by Island taxpayers, the damage done to the reputation of the Island’s Judiciary and Legislature (Both key elements of the Islands primary economic driver, the international finance industry), and most of all the legal case of the victims of genuine abuse? It is to the latter that their primary apology should be aimed.I am tempted to place a high dgree of scrutiny on the expenses claims of both these individuals. As for the prospect of someone with similar animosity to the Island being brought in and paid to express what would be regardless of the facts a biased report, I am totally anti the idea. I would rather see a small local scrutiny panel set up. We have the ability here and we have people of known integrity.
