Swine flu at school
Friday 19th June 2009, 3:00PM BST.
HELVETIA House School has been forced to close following two more confirmed cases of swine flu.
One of the cases is associated with the primary school, which is in Rouge Bouillon, and pupils have been told to stay at home.
There are also fears that the disease might have spread to Les Quennevais, although a suspected case there has not been confirmed. The unconfirmed case at the secondary school is a pupil who had contact with one of the new patients.
Health were unable to confirm this morning whether the Helvetia patient was a child or a member of staff. They said that the Les Quennevais pupil did not currently have any symptoms, so the risk of transmission to other students was very low. But they advised that students who had attended classes with the pupil on Tuesday to contact their GPs so that they can be given Tamiflu.
A helpline, tel 445566, is open Monday to Friday between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm.
