Price war for broadband?
Saturday 20th June 2009, 3:00PM BST.
ISLANDERS can look forward to a price war when fast internet broadband connections become available later in the year as three companies will be competing for business.
Earlier this week Jersey Telecom announced that it would be making faster internet connection speeds available from August. It said that the fastest packages would enable connectivity at up to eight megabytes a second – four times the maximum currently available.
For the first time in Jersey, Cable & Wireless has decided to join the battle for the fast broadband market through its Sure brand. Sure chief executive Graham Hughes has promised ‘the same aggressive pricing’ approach toward broadband services that he said the company adopts in the mobile market. Sure will also be looking to offer mobile and broadband deals to attract more customers.
Newtel Solutions also provides broadband to the Jersey market and said it would be fighting for customers when the faster speeds were made available. Newtel’s head of marketing, Trevor Le Sueur, said: ‘We will be supplying the new eight-megabytes-a-second connections and our customers will not be disappointed. We will be very competitively priced.’

Fingers crossed for free market competition. With Sure I pay half of the previous JT phone bill, I hope to see the same for the broadband charge!

About time, we have been paying more than UK customers for slower download speeds for long enough. Lets hope the competition war results in realistic pricing.
People are getting sky, telephone and broadband in the UK for not much more than the basic price for broadband in Jersey.
JT needs the competition, they have had it too good for too long.

Its fine to comment on JT
“JT needs the competition, they have had it too good for too long.”
BUT have you thought that its actually the JCRA that call the shots, as well as the States as JT is 51% States owned. Just a gentle reminder before everyone starts jumping on the bandwagon about JT perhaps complaints need to be directed further afield

I use JT broadband and was wondering how easy is it to change? Do I need new telephone numbers etc?

In fact the States own 100% of JT, and also the fact that the other companies dont provide Broadband circuits they just rent them from JT at a price fixed by the JCRA.
