Swine flu: No further cases
Saturday 20th June 2009, 2:59PM BST.
THE Education Department has confirmed that it has no plans to close any further schools next week because of swine flu.
Yesterday it was announced that Helvetia House School had been forced to shut its doors for at least two days, following the outbreak of two more cases of the virus in the Island.
There were also fears that the disease had spread to Les Quennevais secondary school.
However, the department confirmed yesterday afternoon that all other schools – including Les Quenenvais – would be continuing to operate normally and would be open as normal next week.
Education director Mario Lundy said that the department was currently working ‘very closely’ with Public Health. ‘The health of pupils and their families is obviously our prime concern,’ he said. ‘We would like to reassure parents that we are working closely with the Public Health Department, and will continue to do so to ensure that health considerations are at the fore in the management of this situation.’
Three cases of the flu have been confirmed so far. The first person has recovered and the other two are receiving treatment.

BIRD WATCH 2012

The 11th Great Garden Bird Watch took place over the weekend, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 February. JEP readers were asked to get on board to help monitor bird life in the Island.

As a parent of a child at Les Quennevais, I can confirm that they (the school) covered all areas and spoke to parents and provided us with letters to assure things were/are under control. However, this is not the same with local GPs after seeking advice this weekend for a sniffly teenager, as did a couple of my friends. I have found this all the information/advice given be conflicting in three different occasions, and the consensus of “oh well there is flu in general” and “swine flu is more moderate than normal flu”. Are we to blame media hype for the current problems. Should we be bothered? No I dont think so!

I agree 1. NO NEED as a popular radio 1 Dj said! the reason im concerned is that general docs have all been given 10 doses of this (so called cure!?yea!)so when they do have to check familys etc they are running back and forth from the general? plus im concerned their so called perfectly devised plan has its flaws!it seems to me after to speaking to a few private GPs they are 9t the moment) unprepard my view though!!
