THE 20 States chief officers claimed £30,000 in expenses between them last year, the JEP can reveal.

Figures showing chief officers’ reimbursed personal expenses, hospitality claims and relocation expenses have been released following an application by the JEP under the Code of Practice on Public Access to Official Information.

Last year’s biggest spender on hospitality was Health chief executive Mike Pollard, whose £3,215 in claims was higher than 2007’s top claimer, Economic Development chief officer Mike King, who claimed £2,925.31 last year.

Of the 20 chief officers listed, the same members made up the top five both years running for hospitality claims.

Is this even news? Chief Officers, indeed all States workers, are allowed to make expense claims. It would sound as if they are justified as you haven’t been able to report any specific ‘unreasonable’ claims.

Obviously a headline designed to cause outrage and I sure it will but doing some wizardry called ‘math’ means the average claims equate to £100 per month per member.

Stop trying to sensationalise what is basically nothing more than a couple of curry’s and a few taxis a month! I worked for 12 months for a company where I needed to travel to the IOM sometimes twice a week and I know I averaged around £300 per week on expenses just getting to and from airports, parking at airports and sustaining myself with food.

We all know costs add up quickly so how much time and effort do we really want to waste arguing around the fact that most members claimed around £23 per week!?

here we have a expence claim for 30,0000 but on the 18th of june it was reported that the civil service in general, claimed 2.8 million, what i would like to know is where the rest went, these guys have not been excessive, as one comment states its a £100 a month.
even ordinary joe has spent £100 a month if he has a few pints and 200 cigarettes, plus a bus home if he is lucky.

I presume this is supposed to be a “good news” story; in stark comparison to their counterparts in england currently in the headlines, our politicans only average £1500 per year each which is about £30 per week. I’d say that’s pretty good, and is indeed newsworthy. Credit where it’s due, I bet they could have claimed a lot more.
Frankly the sceptic in me is a tad surprised at such a low amount, and I wonder if a zero has been erroneously missed from the actual figure!

So the knives are out for Pollard now? The council of ministers have decided he’s too much of a liability and outlived his usefulness, so he has to go. Good of the JEP to get the public behind the witch hunt!

Another example of Jersey trying to run with the big boys and girls.

No stroy here, why did the JEP even bother to publish it.

Just because something happens in the UK,doesnot mean we have to follow suit.

    Nil points for journalism.
