HUNDREDS of Islanders celebrated the summer solstice weekend at special open-air concerts in St Ouen.

With the setting sun providing the perfect glowing backdrop, a total of 1,400 people gathered at Grantez on Friday and Saturday evening for the National Trust for Jersey Sunset Concerts.

On Friday, Dennis Rollins’ Boneyard entertained the lively crowd with Dixieland jazz. Saturday evening was given a classical flavour with the ten-piece Harlequin Brass.

Karen Edwards, of the National Trust for Jersey, said: ‘Friday was very lively with lots of families and people getting up and dancing. Saturday’s concert attracted an older audience because it was classical. They were both very successful evenings.’

Great concerts, I know they were sponsored but how about “”think local”" we have some brilliant brass and school bands we also have Band of the Island of Jersey which is a fantastic band and would have been very impressive at a sunset concert, and would have provided them with some much needed money–they are going to play at Lord Mayors Parade in London in November–well done
