Civil servants are a protected species

CONGRATULATIONS to the JEP for publishing the expenses of the civil service – £2.8 million?

Wow! Now please add to that sum the total of ‘jobs for life’ senior civil service salaries, pensions and perks so that we can see the true cost to the taxpayer.

All the businesses and wealth-creating sections of our community are cutting back and losing jobs. These are tough times and generating money has never been harder, but the civil service is an artificially protected species which goes squandering on regardless.

If only our elected States Members had the guts to do something about it.
