Spence close to podium spot
Tuesday 23rd June 2009, 2:59PM BST.
CHRIS Spence just missed out on a podium finish racing in the UK’s Nick Clark Memorial Road Race on Sunday.
With one of his best results of the season Spence claimed fourth place out of a field of 80 riders in the National B 130 km race in Bedfordshire which involved eight laps of a ten mile rolling course with a steep climb just after the start and at the finish.
With high speeds in the race no-one attempted to break early on but Caesarean Cycling Club rider Spence featured in the pack that pulled away with four laps remaining.
He was also able to stick with the riders who formed a counter attack to this break which proved to be a good decision as this lead was sustained until the end of the race when, breaking for the line too early, Spence was passed just before the line to finish fourth.
