Would we look after a national park in a fit and proper way?

From Ryan McMullen.
REGARDING your article detailing the creation of a national park (JEP, 18 June), a series of doubts entered my mind as to what protection the land would be afforded as a result of this.
Of course the idea is great in theory, especially after the labours of the National Trust for Jersey, but the part of the article which drew my interest – and fuelled my doubts – was the mention of careful planning and development in the area.
I imagine that these careful considerations for planning will be akin to that near our Ramsar area.
Protecting our environment is an important issue, especially with the decision to allow a ridiculous amount of immigrant families into the Island while our own struggle for employment. All these decisions will infringe further into natural habitats as areas become too populated and congestion unbearable.
Perhaps our States Members who seem to supplant prudence for a quick fix can prove me wrong in my doubts, and I sincerely hope so, for this is a serious issue. Nonetheless, it seems today as if decisions are made only for Members to overrule them when another situation arises, without considering all the options. I do not remain optimistic.
