A JERSEY financial services regulation expert has highlighted on an international stage Jersey’s commitment to co-operation in fraud investigations.

Ed Shorrock, the director of forensic and regulatory services at BakerPlatt, was speaking at the International Bar Association’s 12th Transnational Crime Conference in New York.

He was a member of a panel which discussed the efforts of governments around the world to recoup, through tax investigations, many billions lost in cross-border tax violations.

He spoke of Jersey’s framework for dealing with tax investigations and the Island’s commitment to signing Tax Information Exchange Agreements.

He said: ‘The eyes of the world are becoming more focused on the activities of offshore jurisdictions – and not just from governments and regulators. The court of public opinion is becoming increasingly important. Dealing with these expectations is critical to Jersey maintaining its reputation as a well-respected jurisdiction, but the Island has mechanisms in place to ensure that it can do so.’
