St John’s cup-winning polish

A POLISHED performance in the field was instrumental in helping St John to victory in the S E Guy Memorial Trophy final against holders HSBC Jersey at Grainville last night.
Despite HSBC getting off to a flyer with 87 runs on the scoreboard after seven of their allotted twelve overs, St John then fielded and bowled superbly to notch five run outs and restrict HSBC to119 for six.
St John paced their inning to perfection and after Damien Maltwood made 34 runs – including two 6s – Chris Peel and Charlie Franks guided them to victory with six balls to spare following unbeaten scores of 29 and 35 respectively.
St John skipper Jon Evans said: ‘We’re pleased; it was a good win and it was nice to bowl and field well as it was a vast improvement on last week’s match against Rathbone OVs when we dropped seven catches!’
