Ogley impresses on Island Games debut
Monday 29th June 2009, 1:27PM BST.
JERSEY’S judo team got their Island Games campaign off to a mixed start with Robert Ogley the top performer.
Competing in the under-73 kg category he was knocked out of the first round of the main draw but made it through to the semi-final of the repercharge event before losing to the eventual main draw bronze medallist.
Mike Bisson was knocked out in the first rounds of both the main event and the repercharge of the U60 kg group. In the over 100 kg section Alain Baudains featured in three contests while André Blaby’s week of competing was cut short as a shoulder injury booked him a trip to the local hospital.
Manager Tony Palmer said: ‘Luckily André hasn’t broken anything it is most likely to be tendon or ligament damage.
‘Rob really was the star of the team today as at just 17-years-old and at his first Island Games he performed so well to go so far.’
