A FREE shuttle service that will drop arriving ferry passengers into town starts on Wednesday.

The Connex service will run every day throughout July and August between Liberation Station and the Elizabeth Terminal.

Buses will pick up Condor Ferries passengers when they arrive in the Island and there will be a return service from Liberation Station that will take passengers to the Harbour to check in for departing services.

Connex will run the shuttle on a two-month trial basis to assess the demand, and will bear all the operational costs.

What a waste of money! Just get a big sign pointing the way, if the locals can walk it then so can the tourists (Or are you trying to hide the building site that is also known as the waterfront?)

This is very convenient and what’s better than free? I will start using this service myself.

About time. On Saturday I found a UK pensioner pulling a suitcase past Maritime House, who stopped me and asked if there were any taxis in Jersey. He’d arrived on the ferry and saw no sign of public transport. You know what they say about first impressions….

and about time too ……….. No more getting soaked when it rains and no more seeing a Connex bus arrive or depart from the harbour out of sync. with arriving passengers. Locals and visitors have long needed this service.

Poor bus driver having to wait when the boat is late!

An excellent idea – I’m always seeing french tourists struggling with bags heading into town and this will make them far more inclined to come back!

Apparently James Deale has never heard of telephoning to check on arrival times.

Connex wouldn’t be offering the service and absorbing all the cost if they thought it was a waste of money.

By transporting the passengers to Liberation Station, they are clearly hoping that many of those passengers will then transfer onto another bus service, rather than using a taxi.

Also, by providing a free service to the tourists as soon as they arrive on the island and allowing them to sample the bus service, there’s a good chance those tourists will use other buses throughout their holiday to travel to various tourist sites.

I think that this is a step in the right direction. Our ferry passengers provide much for our tourist industry.
    On a slightly different topic,
at the moment, the first person a ferry passenger meets on arrival in Jersey, is a person thrusting religious literature at them, as soon as they exit the customs hall.
Apart from blocking the exit, it hardly creates a good image for our island. I realize that freedom of speech is a given, however, States property should not be used by persons wishing to push their own personal agenda. This does not happen at the airport. Why is it allowed to happen at the harbours?
