Jersey ‘50-50’ to host 2015 Island Games
Wednesday 1st July 2009, 2:59PM BST.
JERSEY will face Gotland in a head-on battle to become hosts of the Island Games in 2015.
The chairman of the Island Games Association of Jersey, Steve Jacobs, confirmed that both Ynys Mon and the Faroe Islands declared themselves out of the running at yesterday’s Island Games Association annual general meeting in Aland.
Mr Jacobs said: ‘The fact that Ynys Mon and the Faroe Islands have dropped out of the bid leaves just Jersey and Gotland. It’s difficult to say whether we are favoured or not – it seems to be about 50-50 at the moment. T
The Baltic states are more influenced by the lower cost for them to get to Gotland, but the Atlantic islands are keener for us to win because they can travel to Jersey quite easily via Gatwick.’
The decision will be made at the agm in June next year. Jersey last hosted the Games in 1997 and Gotland, in 1999.
