‘Large number of people’ could put money where mouth is
Thursday 2nd July 2009, 2:58PM BST.
From Harry Read.
ONCE again we are being encouraged to believe that it is a good idea that the States purchase Plémont headland off Mr Hemmings at a potential cost of £5 million.
Of course this suggestion is strongly supported by St Ouen and, it is said, ‘a large number of people’.
Could I suggest an approach that might be taken? Just like we did for the MRI scanner let there be a charity set up that the ‘large number of people’ who want the headland returned to nature can subscribe to and when that fund reaches half of the likely cost the States can put in the other half.
This would allow the States to assess the real level of demand, as opposed to the vocal few, and, should the subscriptions not approach the target, perhaps the idea could be laid to rest.
