Losing our identity

Saturday 4th July 2009, 2:57PM BST.

From Bronwen Garth-Thornton.
WELSH people, Manx and Shetland Islanders all take great pride in their unique cultures and their politicians invest considerable time and money in heritage projects.

It surprises me that the majority of Jersey politicians don’t seem concerned about losing Jersey’s cultural identity.

Tuesday’s States debate regarding support for Jersey Heritage was disheartening. Hopefully the Council of Ministers will follow the example of their Welsh, Manx and Shetland counterparts and give more support for culture in the very near future before it is too late.

Surely Jersey’s heritage should not be sacrificed in favour of chasing a bland global economy?
