Merton Hotel plan defended
Tuesday 7th July 2009, 3:00PM BST.
From David Seymour, managing director, Seymour Hotels.
I WRITE in response to your article (JEP, 30 June) regarding the revised planning application in respect of the property St Juste owned by Merton Hotel Limited.
Rather than duplicate the detailed response that has already been provided in respect of the concerns aired by the various parties wishing to ‘Save St Juste’ I hereby attach an illustration, first submitted to the Planning Department in July 2008, of how the property will appear should the application be successful. This shows that there is no intention to demolish the building, and that restoration will include thatching of the roof as when it was originally built.
The application was first submitted in April 2006 and understandably has been the subject of a great deal of discussion with the Planning Department. The revised application is significantly different to the original.
As part of the process Merton Hotel Limited will agree to a condition to undertake restoration works to La Fantaisie, another cottage ornée in the hotel grounds, to ensure that this currently dilapidated property will be brought back into practical use.

Good for you, David. About time the old “annexe” was put to good use again.
