What’s happening with Members’ pay?
Thursday 9th July 2009, 2:59PM BST.
From Brendan Brady.
I WRITE in reference to the recent political discussions on public sector pay and in particular the hard and fast decisions by our States representatives to freeze this sector’s pay due to the economic climate.
Fully understanding the reasons for and against such action I, who have no side to fight on as I am not in this sector, only wish to bring back to the table the discussion on our States Members pay rise which was put on the back burner.
A while ago there was great debate about whether they will take their pay rise or not. Also a very excellent suggestion that the extra pay rise should go to charity.
Now some time has passed and although we, the public, were told this would be debated again for a decision sometime in May or June this year, nothing has happened. We are on our way through July now. I wonder if it is the same old tactic used before.
If they can keep it quiet their pay rise can be sneaked in under the fence when no one is looking or while the smoke from the fire is cleverly diverted elsewhere.
Can one of our States Members please take this up at this very relevant time and give us the answer that we are all waiting for?
