IRELAND full international cricketer Paul Stirling will be representing his country next week in the under-19 European Division I championship in Jersey.

The 18-year-old up-and-coming right-hand bat scored a century this week in Ireland’s ICC Intercontinental Cup draw against Kenya in a four-day match played at Woodvale Road, Eglinton.

The teenager also played in the recent Twenty/20 World Cup, where he made his Twenty/20 début against Pakistan, and he has already made four first class appearances for his country together with playing in three One-Day Internationals.

Jersey Cricket Board coach Craig Hogan, who is coaching Jersey’s U19s in next week’s tournament, which starts on Tuesday, said: ‘Ireland are bringing their full national coaching team to Jersey and of course Stirling is included in their playing squad.’

Jersey step up to play in Division I for the first time and will host champions Scotland in their first match at the Farmers’ Field in St Martin. Teams taking part in the round-robin tournament are Denmark, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Guernsey and Jersey.
