The Rolex watch

The Rolex watch

THEY say that time is money … and for one Islander it could prove to be true – to the tune of almost £300,000.

Jersey’s Hettich jewellers are the only shop in the world which is selling the limited-edition Rolex GMT-Master II ‘Ice’ watch – one of the most expensive timepieces on the planet.

The exclusive watch is the most expensive that Rolex has ever made. It is iced with 18-carat white gold and boasts no fewer than 2,422 diamonds. And with all its finery, the Ice watch is yours for a cool £292,160.

It is believed that only 50 such watches have been made, with five being allocated by Rolex to the UK. Hettich took delivery of theirs when they recently held an exclusive exhibition at Longueville Manor. It is now the only Ice watch in the world which is still on sale.

Jeffrey Chinn, managing director of Hettich, said: ‘It is a real honour for Hettich that we are the only jeweller left in the world that has this exclusive timepiece available for purchase. Despite its spectacular appearance, the watch has the everyday function one expects from a Rolex watch, and is even waterproof.’

How much food can a £300k watch buy to feed the starving? Or to put it in Jersey terms, how many 4X4s can a £300k watch buy?

Hettich – give your profits on this hedonistic piece of tat to charity.
