VICTORIA College Preparatory retained the Trent Shield on Saturday afternoon following a nine-wicket victory against the ‘Primary Dragons’ at the FB Fields.
The Prep’s Sol Warner had a game to remember with five wickets for six runs in four overs, including a maiden.
Warner’s off-break spin was well-supported by Josh Le Cornu at the other as the leg-break spinner also bowled four overs to grab two wickets for 12 runs.
Earlier the ‘Primary Dragons’, a team comprising players from Western schools, were tied down by opening bowlers Jonty Jenny and Rob Duckett who delivered accurately with each returning identical figures of one for nine from nine overs.
The Dragons were eventually all out for 34 in 16 overs leaving the Prep to go on a clinch victory off the final delivery of their seventh over.
College master Ben Silva, a former Island player, said: ‘The Prep boys were very, very focused. Their bowling and fielding was excellent. They are the best junior side I’ve worked with in my six years here and I don’t think I’ve seen a better junior team in 15 years of playing.’
