NETHERLANDS batman Alexei Kervezee continued his storming form in the U19 European cricket championship yesterday with a second consecutive century in a 146-run win against Jersey at the FB Fields.
The Worcestershire professional, who last month scored 66 runs in the second innings of a county championship defeat by Durham at the Riverside, helped himself to an impressive 155 off 137 balls yesterday as the Netherlands ran up a massive 296 for nine in their allotted 50 overs.
Kervezee, who scored 137 the previous day and 62 on Tuesday, struck 14 boundaries and two sixes. Faced with such a mammoth total to win the match, Jersey again had a poor start to their innings before they were eventually dismissed in 42.2 overs for 150.
Ben Stevens and skipper Anthony Kay again turned Jersey’s innings around with a 66-run fifth-wicket partnership. Stevens scored 24 runs off 47 deliveries while Kay struck his second half-century of the week before falling for 54 off 92 balls. Steven Blackburn was Jersey’s successful bowler yesterday with three wickets for 49 runs.
Ireland are top of the table with maximum points after they recorded a massive 232-run win against Guernsey at the Farmers Field. Today is a rest day. The final two rounds of matches are scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday.
