THE Netherlands are on track to win a place for the first time in the global qualifier for the 2010 ICC Under-19 World Cup
Needing to finish in the the top two in the six-team Division I championship in Jersey the Netherlands, currently third in the table behind 100 per cent leaders Ireland and then Scotland, are focusing hard on winning their final two matches. Those are against Denmark at Grainville today and against Guernsey at Les Quennevais tomorrow.
And with openers Alexei Kervezee and Stijn Allema in sparkling form they will certainly be fancying their chances – particularly with second-placed Scotland having to face Ireland tomorrow.
Kervezee and Allema have already featured in 217 and 129-run partnerships this week and team manager Roland Lefebvre is hoping their good form continues today and tomorrow.
Lefebvre said: ‘Everything is on track; we are going well and hopefully it will continue. We were going along nicely in our first match against Ireland at 127 for three but then it all went wrong and 169 was not enough to defend in the end.
The winners and runners-up in this week’s tournament will play in the global World Cup qualifier in Canada in September. The World Cup itself is in New Zealand next year.
