IRELAND and The Netherlands will play in the global qualifier for the Under-19 World Cup in September after finishing first and second respectively in the Division I tournament competed yesterday in Jersey.

Scotland did have the satisfaction of beating Ireland at Grainville, by 62 runs yesterday, but they missed out finishing in the top two places on net run rate.

The Netherlands defeated Guernsey by eight wickets with Stijn Allema and Tim Gruijters leading the way with 65 runs and 41 respectively while Guernsey’s Adam Martel scored 37 runs in Guernsey’s 142 for nine.

With the three nations all finishing with five victories and one defeat throughout the competition, it came down to net run rates with Ireland on 1.69, The Netherlands on 1.45 and Scotland and 1.25. Jersey took fourth place after defeating Denmark yesterday by 59 runs at the College Field.

• Jersey got off to a winning start yesterday in the ICC European Under-15 Division I tournament in Scotland with a victory against Ireland. Luke Gallichan had a fine match with the bat and ball as Jersey defeated the tournament favourites by 68 runs.
