Jersey’s Inter-insular cricket glory
Monday 27th July 2009, 3:00PM BST.
JERSEY’S Under-23 cricketers wrested possession of the inter-insular trophy from Guernsey at Grainville yesterday, winning by six wickets.
Having put Guernsey, who had held the trophy since 2006, in to bat, the Sarnians made 177 in a match of 50 overs each. Jersey passed that target in the 45th over (178 for 4).
According to Jersey captain Sam Dewhurst it was a team effort.
‘We decided beforehand we wanted them to bat first so that we could chase them down. Every one of our bowlers found the right line and length to deny them easy runs. We also talked about having a better batting line-up, and Borgie (Jon Borg) got us off to a really great start,’ he said.
