Prove that Jersey is more than just a tax haven

Tuesday 28th July 2009, 2:59PM BST.

From Maud Gilles.
I WAS horrified to learn that the Maritime Museum was threatened with closure. I have visited maritime museums all over Europe and the Jersey museum is one of the best.

Having moved away from the Island over 47 years ago, I have no right to criticise the Jersey planners, so I hope that many Jersey residents will sign the petition at the museum – certainly, all those remotely connected with tourism, all teachers who should encourage children to learn about their environment, and as many as possible of a younger generation than myself.

Do you really want Jersey to be known only as an offshore centre and tax haven for the rich? Surely you want Jersey to be known for something more, something with a heart and soul and a rich heritage.

Let no-one be apathetic. As Mr Le Brocq said (JEP, 18 July), ‘It is a time to roar’.
