AN Islander who only recently took up triathlon has qualified to represent Great Britain at the World Triathlon Championships in Australia in September.

Truusje Gamlin (55) competed in her first full triathlon this weekend in Bedford, finishing third in the 55-59 age group in a time of 2.47.21 – well within the qualifying time.

She will now be part of a 250-strong Great Britain team who will travel to the World Championships at Surfers’ Paradise, on Australia’s Gold Coast, for the event on 13 September in which around 2,400 athletes from 42 different countries are expected to take part.

Gamlin has always been active; being a keen swimmer and cycling to and from work every day, but it was when she took part in the Jersey Marathon with her work, Royal Bank of Canada, 18 months ago that she realised her potential.
