JERSEY’S special gymnasts added another 32 medals – nine of them gold – to their haul on the last day of competition at the Special Olympics National Summer Games at Leicester.
Level Four competitors Alex Buesnel, Harry Smale and Martyn Miles almost made a clean sweep of the gold medals in the top division of the U21 category, with Buesnel claiming five and Miles one – Miles having just missed out on the top spot in the bar after a fall.
Veteran gymnast Rui Reis qualified for all the top groups of the over 21 age group, winning a gold, three silvers and claiming a fourth and sixth place as well as taking gold in the 30+ category, while Sinead Balance won two bronzes in the U21 Level Two women as well as a sixth and an eighth and a fifth in the all round competition.
At Level Four, Buesnel stole the show with five golds, a silver and a fourth place, while Smale beat all his previous scores to win four silvers and three bronzes and Miles took gold in the vault and two silvers and four bronzes.
