VICTIMS of swine flu now total 85 in Jersey and Tamiflu has been issued to 802 Islanders.

That is an increase of nine cases in the last seven days, but with 24 new cases in the previous week, the latest figures indicate that the outbreak has slowed down.

Medical Officer of Health Dr Rosemary Geller said that she was confident that swine flu was being controlled in the Island.

‘There hasn’t been a challenge of this magnitude for about 40 years,’ she said. ‘We are remaining in the containment stage to try to make sure the virus does not start spreading to any great degree.’

Dr. Geller, don’t expect any praise.
Poor you! You are truly in a “lose or lose” position.
If Jersey manages to contain the swine-flu outbreak, you’ll be accused of throwing money away and scaremongering. And if the swine-flu spreads, you’ll be accused of poor organization and numerous blunders (minimum!).
So fasten your seat belt, because whatever happens, you’re in for a bumpy ride!

I think you’ll find Dr. Geller built the ride by saying such ludicrous things.

Storm in a teacup….just like Bird Flu.

What next……Fish Flu? God forbid Cow Flu should appear :-)

Just another excuse for pharmaceutical companies and those in the healthcare profession to rake in the deniros whilst scaring the public at the same time.

I thought Dr Geller said several tens of thousands would be affected in Jersey alone?

Hold on…. Am I the only one who sees a slight problem with this… Victims number 85, but Tamiflu has been issued to 802 Islanders…
Something doesn’t add up. Are they giving out Tamiflu at the slightest sign on a sniffle?

The thing is, I know the Island has enough of these for everyone, but you will only get this once…
So out of the 802 people who took it, only 85 needed it, so 717 took it needlessly… and if any of those 717 ACTUALLY get swine flu… Good luck!

85 sick, 802 given swine flu drugs. Sounds to me just like the disproprotionate amount of over prescribing that is prevalent in Jersey. Never have I encountered (I have lived in 5 countries) a health service where people are signed off for so long for minor ailments. Last week I had an employee signed off for 4 days – with that most crippling of illnesses a sore throat. Thank God we have Polish immigrants if you left any hard work to (many of) the locals then the island would be in a sorry state.
