Four-year low in spending revealed
Thursday 6th August 2009, 3:00PM BST.
HIGH street spending slowed to its lowest level for four years at the end of 2008, according to new statistics.
The data also showed that Islanders began to cut back on their weekly food shop at the end of last year.
The figures were revealed yesterday when the first ever results of a survey of retail sales in Jersey were published by the States Statistics Unit.
Head of the unit Dr Duncan Gibaut said that in future the quarterly results would provide an early short-term picture of economic trends.
