JERSEY’S Darren Stower and crew Adam Beattie finished seventh overall in the Hobie Tiger European Championships in Italy last week.

They were the top placed British team in the Lake Como event with Jersey’s other representative Andy Hart and crew Michael Kinross finishing 22nd.

Stower started the week with a place on the podium in a warm up event as he battled it out in the three-race Italian National Hobie Tiger Championships, finishing just one point behind second place overall after racing to an eighth, second, and fourth place finish.

There was disappointment for Hart as following a sixth and fifth place finish in the first two races he had to settle for 18th in the third round although that still left him a respectable eighth overall.

On to the main event and the competition didn’t go to plan for both teams as Stower and Beattie were hindered after being hit with a penalty for an infringement which set them back in the fleet to finish 13th in the first race while Hart and Kinross ended in 25th.

Both made improvements as the week went on with Stower ending the event having finished second on three occasions – losing out every time to professional Hobie sailing team Mischa Heemskerk and Tentij Bastiaan from the Netherlands.

Hart had his best finish in the penultimate race taking a 12th place to boost himself and Kinross up the standings on the final day.
