Connelly and Clayton win doubles in France

JERSEY tennis players Scott Clayton and James Connelly won the doubles event at a senior tournament held in Dinard this week after a second set championship tie-break in the final.
The pair progressed through several rounds of the competition to make it to the final on Wednesday which they eventually won 3-6, 7-6 (8-6) and championship tie break 10-7.
In the singles competition at the same event, 15-year-old Clayton won a total of seven matches, four of those against higher ranked adult players – including one against Jersey’s Andrew Evans – and won through two tableau finals to reach the main draw before losing to the eventual semi finalist, Alexander Pardoue, 1-6, 2-6.
Connelly (19) also progressed through four rounds in the singles competition.
Clayton now turns his attention to playing a year young in the U16 British Junior National Championships which start in Roehampton on Monday.
