CHRIS SPENCE continued his good form at the weekend taking second place in the National B Python Racing Team Summer Road Race.

The Caesarean Cycling Club member, who is on course to qualify for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, took part in this 88-mile ten-lap challenge on a fast Fifield circuit against some of the country’s Premier riders.

Spence was able to break away with seven other riders on the first lap and they kept ahead of the pack for a number of laps with more than half a minute separating them.

Quoted on the CCC website Spence said: ‘I felt great today and was on a float day when nothing is difficult. It was a shame that I ended up with Grant (Bayton) at the finish as with his relatively fresh legs it was always going to be difficult to beat him, but I gave it a good shot.

‘I knew I had good form after the Island Road Race Championships and it was confirmed today. The Surrey five day race starts on Friday and who knows, perhaps I can go one better than my 1999 overall placing of second.’
