GB call for surf duo

Matt Chapman
TWO Jersey surfers have been named in the Great Britain training squad for the 2010 World Junior Surfing Championships.
Under-18 Matt Chapman and U16 Nathan Elms have both been included in the British Surfing Association Squad from which a team will be selected to compete at the World Championships in Piha near Aukland in New Zealand in January.
Jersey Surfboard Club president Dave Ferguson was thrilled with the news that two local surfers had made it into the 18-strong squad and said: ‘This is brilliant news for Jersey surfing and just shows that local surfers are hitting the right standards to be part of a British team.
‘We’ve been overlooked in the past ten years by the BSA but this just shows that we have the talent and they are beginning to realise we are capable of surfing at World Championships. Nathan and Matt have been surfing extremely well over the last two years and deserve every chance they get and the Jersey Surfboard Club will try and help them as much as we can.’
