Warning over strong new heroin batch
Thursday 20th August 2009, 2:59PM BST.

Michael Gafoor, director of the Alcohol and Drugs Service.
A WARNING that a dangerously strong batch of heroin may be being peddled in Jersey has been issued following three overdoses in the last 36 hours.
Jersey’s Ambulance Service say they have attended eight heroin overdoses in the last month.
Station officer Jason Hamon said that this was an unusually high number and confirmed that the overdoses have involved younger people.
‘It is quite worrying given that the average is three opiate overdoses a month,’ he said. ‘If you are concerned about anyone dial 999 and call for an ambulance and follow the advice from the Alcohol and Drugs Service.’
Michael Gafoor, director of the Alcohol and Drug Service, is advising heroin users to take ‘extreme care’. He is warning all opiate users that the batch of ‘very strong heroin’ circulating Jersey greatly increases the chance of overdose.
If anyone is concerned about their drug use they can contact the Alcohol and Drugs service in confidence on 445000.
