Serena Guthrie in action at the World Youth Netball Championships
ENGLAND’S World Youth Netball Championship medal hopes were shattered by a 48-42 bronze medal play off defeat to Jamaica yesterday.
Although it wasn’t the ending they had hoped for, Jersey’s Serena Guthrie proved indispensable for England playing a crucial role first as wing defence and then centre.
Jamaica showed speed out of the blocks not just on the world stage of athletics but in netball too as they took an early lead in this match between two netballing giants.
England responded to create turnovers that allowed them to level the match 11-11 at the end of the first quarter prompting the introduction of Romelda Aiken, twice voted most valuable player in the ANZ Championships, as Jamaica’s goal shooter.
