A TOURIST died on Wednesday after apparently passing out while swimming in St Brelade’s Bay.

The 69-year-old, who was staying at the Biarritz Hotel, has not been named. It is believed that he suffered a heart attack while swimming around 50 metres out to sea in front of the Zanzibar restaurant.

Assistant Harbourmaster Captain Paul Mimmack said that the incident had happened at around 5 pm, when lifeguards noticed the man lying prone in the water.

They managed to pull him to shore and tried to resuscitate him with the aid of a doctor and a member of the St John Ambulance, who were on the beach at the time. But efforts to save the man failed, and he was pronounced dead on arrival at the Hospital.
