The house in Trinity was destroyed.
AN elderly man was taken to hospital after a chip pan fire destroyed his home in Trinity on Saturday afternoon.
The man, believed to be in his 80s, was suffering from smoke inhalation.
He made the call to the Fire and Rescue Service at about 2.30 pm and two fire engines were sent to the cottage opposite Trinity Parish Hall.
On arrival the fire had spread so quickly that smoke was billowing out of the roof, said fire station manager Michael Baudains.
He added: ‘The cottage has been completely destroyed by the fire.
