Missing the sights and sound of Battle
Monday 24th August 2009, 2:59PM BST.
From Anne Richardson.
I WOULD like to make some comments on the Battle of Flowers. We were seated in Stand D and had an excellent view of the parade.
It was marred, however, by a couple of things which I would hope could be improved for the future.
Although the marching bands are an integral part of the parade, they drown out the music of the floats, which can be almost impossible to hear.
It is ridiculous that the parade is moved on too quickly for the spectators to see the dancers perform in front of each section of the stands.
In particular, we found our favourite float, St Clement, which is usually magnificent, at the back of the parade and it was particularly difficult to hear or see the dancers.
