Public ‘need assurance over WEB replacement’

PLANS to create a development company to subsume the Waterfront Enterprise Board have been carefully considered ‘because the Island cannot afford for it to go wrong again’, said Jersey’s Chief Minister.
Speaking at a Scrutiny panel hearing on Thursday, Senator Terry Le Sueur said that he recognised there had been failures with WEB and that the ‘bad memories’ would not be erased overnight.
The past performance of WEB was criticised last year after revelations about lawsuits against Harcourt, the developers for the Esplanade Quarter, came to light after the States had approved the £350 million financial district on the Waterfront.
The controversy provoked the resignation of WEB director Senator Jim Perchard and board chairman Gerald Voisin, and provoked a review of the company by Auditor General Chris Swinson.
