JERSEY Heritage is planning to run all its shops itself next year, following advice from a UK consultant.

In past the organisation has leased its six shops to local retailers, taking 20% of the turnover.

But it now believes that it could make more profit by selling its own merchandise. It would also gain economies of scale by buying goods in bulk for all six sites.

The change of heart follows an initial review last year by UK consultants Retail Matters.

Helen Gray, head of marketing at Jersey Heritage, said: ‘We hope next year we will be looking after all the shops.’

The retail outlets are at the Jersey Museum, Hamptonne, La Hougue Bie, the Maritime Museum, and Elizabeth and Mont Orgueil castles.
