Living on less than hal
Saturday 29th August 2009, 2:59PM BST.
From Michael Lihou.
WHERE do the figures that the average worker earns £32,240 a year come from? I couldn’t earn that as a Parish of St Helier worker even if I had overtime every weekend. I think they must have us manual workers mixed up with white collar workers somewhere along the line.
As a manual worker we have people on the street telling us that we earn big wages, £620 a week, which was published in the JEP on 26 August. I wish we were earning these big wages, but sadly my take home pay which I must live on is less than half of what was stated.
So I would like to ask Senator Ozouf how he can say we can’t have a pay rise this year, yet they still allow everything to rise, ie food, water rates and our States Housing rents, by 2.5% again this year.
I would like to see these States Members live on my wages and pay my rent and food and daily bills with what I actually do take home – not the £810 they say States workers take home but less than half of the said wage.
